RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.
Carlsbad City Library,
2008-289 accepting a donation of $2,000 from the Friends of the
pledge of an additional $46,324 direct support of libraryacknowledging a
programs, directing an appropriate letter of thanks and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate
the received funds to the Carlsbad City Library's Friends donation account.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have donated $2,000 to the Library for the 2009 Summer
Reading Program. In addition to the donated funds, the Friends have pledged $46,324 to be paid directly
to vendors and performers for the 2009 Summer Reading Program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library augment the budget for the Library allowing for
additional materials, services and programming for the community.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of the donation from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library does not qualify as a project
under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378) and no environmental
review is required.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2008-289 accepting the donation and pledge of support from the Friends of the
Carlsbad City Library to the Carlsbad City Library and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the
received funds.

10 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM
THE FRIENDS OF THE CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY AND
Carlsbad City Library for the 2009 Summer Reading Program; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have pledged an additional
$46,324 in direct support of programs and supplies planned for the 2009 Summer
2. That the City Council accepts the donation of $2,000 from the Friends of the
Carlsbad City Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and authorizes the
Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library budget.
3. That the City Council acknowledges with thanks the additional sum of $46,324
