(^ RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2008-291, accepting a donation of seven hundred fifty-three dollars ($753) in support of the Special Events Program and directing the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds. ITEM EXPLANATION: On Saturday, August 2nd, the Recreation Department partnered with Time Warner's Moonlight Movies to host the Family Movie Night special event at Poinsettia Park. There was an estimated attendance of over 750 participants. The event started with three hours of passive activities; including crafts, face painting, carnival games, and listening to music provided by a "D.J." Both supervised and unsupervised activities were also available prior to the movie including romping in two bounce houses, kicking around giant soccer balls in the field, a giant blow-up basket ball hoop for games, and family relays. Vendors were invited to be at the event and provided food, snacks and beverages for sale to the numerous families that came early to spread out their blankets or set up their chairs for an outdoor viewing of "Shrek the Third" later that evening. Time Warner Cable, our partner, hosted a spinning wheel that included a variety of prizes that were given away. Two hundred fifty-three dollars ($253) was earned from the "$1 a Spin" opportunity that was donated to benefit Recreations Special Events Program. Later that evening, Time Warner Cable increased those proceeds by making an additional donation of $500 bringing the total donation to seven hundred fifty-three ($753) for the Recreation Special Events Program. On Monday, September 15, 2008, the Park and Recreation Commission received the above donations and recommended acceptance by the City Council. A letter of appreciation has been sent on behalf of the Recreation Department and the City of Carlsbad to Time Warner Cable.
