CM Presentation of Efforts to Obtain Federal Infrastructure Funding DEPT. HEAD CITY ATTY. CITY MGR. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Accept a staff presentation on the status of infrastructure project requests made for federal funds. ITEM EXPLANATION: Recent economic turbulence has impacted the lives and budgets of citizens and cities throughout the nation. The City of Carlsbad has not gone untouched as tax revenues fall. Less revenue mean less money to complete work that is important to ensure our City maintains the services and infrastructure that make Carlsbad a great place to live, work and play. The City has a large list of infrastructure projects, including roadway construction, water and sewer pipeline construction, as well as various facility projects. These projects are important but could be delayed without sufficient funds to complete them. In this climate, the City is looking at all possible alternative funding sources to see if additional resources can be found to assist in completing these important projects. The federal government and new presidential administration have indicated that they are preparing to provide some funding to state and local governments for infrastructure projects within a proposed stimulus package. The City has joined cities throughout San Diego County to submit infrastructure projects for funding assistance consideration once the federal stimulus package is confirmed. The attached list of "shovel ready within 12 months" projects was compiled for consideration of federal infrastructure stimulus funding. Staff will provide a summary of the efforts being made to identify and present these infrastructure projects for consideration. FISCAL IMPACT: None. EXHIBITS: 1. List of City infrastructure projects.
