RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.2009-021 accepting a donation of $24,220 from the Friends of the
Carlsbad City Library, acknowledging a pledge of an additional $8,240 in direct support of library
programs, directing an appropriate letter of thanks and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate
the received funds to the Carlsbad City Library's Friends donation account.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have donated $20,000 to the Library for the purchase of
materials and $4,220 for the 2009 Carlsbad Reads Together program, together with an additional $8,240
in direct support of that program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library augment the budget for the Library allowing for
additional materials, and enhanced services and programs for the community.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of the donation from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library does not qualify as a project
under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378) and no environmental
review is required.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2009-021 accepting the donation and the pledge of support from the Friends of
the Library to the Carlsbad City Library and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the received
funds.

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A
DONATION FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $20,000 to the
Carlsbad City Library for the purchase of materials and $4,220 for the 2009 Carlsbad
Reads Together program; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have pledged an additional
$8,240 in direct support of the 2009 Carlsbad Reads Together program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council accepts the donation of $24,220 from the Friends of

the Carlsbad Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, for the purchase of

materials and support of the 2009 Carlsbad Reads Together program, and
17
authorizes the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the
Library budget.
3. That the City Council acknowledges with thanks the additional sum of
$8,240 pledged in direct support of the 2009 Carlsbad Reads Together.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 10th day of February, 2009, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Hall, Packard and Blackburn.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
