RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2009-056 _, accepting $655 cash donations from the
proceeds of Dinner and a Movie Night at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
This past summer, Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park hosted the third annual Friday Night Film
Festival. Nostalgic Hollywood golden era films featuring the Ranch's former owner, actor Leo
Carrillo, were screened outside "under the stars." The finale of the film festival was the Second
Annual Dinner and a Movie Night, which is an annual fundraiser to support the Carrillo Ranch
Fund (Exhibit 2).
On September 14, 2008, 127 guests from the local community attended the finale event in
support of the park. Participants enjoyed a hearty Italian dinner, fresh popcorn and the
screening of Love Me Forever, starring Leo Carrillo and Grace Moore. The entire event was
very well received. More than 95 percent of guests surveyed rated this event as either good or
excellent. Thanks to the support of the community and the generous donation of tables, chairs,
and linens from Allie's Party Rental Equipment, Inc., the Dinner and a Movie Night event raised
$655 to directly benefit the Carrillo Ranch Fund.
The City of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department wishes to acknowledge the generosity
of Allie's Party Rental Equipment, Inc., the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, and all of the volunteers
that donated their time and financial resources in support the Ranch to make the event a
success.
On February 2, 2009, the Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to recommend
that these donations totaling $655 be accepted by the City Council.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The total amount of $655 from the proceeds of the event will be deposited into the Carrillo
Ranch Fund, to be used for future purposes related to the development, operation, and
maintenance of Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines section 15378, this
action does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not
require an environmental review.

5 WHEREAS, the City Council of Carlsbad, California wishes to accept cash
6 donations from the proceeds of Dinner and a Movie Night at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic
7 Park; and
8 WHEREAS, the City Council of Carlsbad, California wishes to thank those who
9 participated in the event to support the Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park; and
10 WHEREAS, the City Council of Carlsbad, California wishes to acknowledge the
11
generosity of Allie's Party Rental Equipment, Inc., the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc,
12
and all of the volunteers that donated their time and their financial resources to make13
the event a success; and
15 WHEREAS, on February 2, 2009 the Parks and Recreation Commission
16 received the donation and voted unanimously to recommend acceptance by the City
17 Council.
18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
19 Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That the City Council does hereby accept the cash donation totaling $655.

of the City of Carlsbad on the 24th day of March, 2009, by the following vote to wit:
