RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2009-057 , accepting cash donations from the sale of hand made crafts that were sold at Holiday at the Rancho in support of the Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. ITEM EXPLANATION: The citizens of Carlsbad celebrate many rich holiday traditions. One tradition not to be missed each year is Joan Kindle's annual craft sale as part of the Holiday at the Rancho special event held this past year on December 6, 2008. The atmosphere at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park on the night of the event was most festive as approximately 2,200 residents gathered to celebrate the season. Attendees were greeted by falling snowflakes as they entered into a whimsical winter wonderland inspired by Dr. Seuss. Highlights of the evening included the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, pictures with the Grinch himself, and the return of Joan Kindle's holiday craft sale. Joan Kindle, Volunteer Curator for Leo Carrillo Ranch Park and long time park benefactor, started working early last year to create a wide assortment of handmade crafts, jewelry and keepsakes (Exhibit 2). At the conclusion of the Holiday at the Rancho event, $596 had been raised to directly benefit the Carrillo Ranch Fund. The City of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department wishes to acknowledge Joan Kindle for her outstanding dedication and devotion to Leo Carrillo Ranch, and the continued donation of her time, talent and financial resources to support the park. On February 2, 2009, the Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to recommend that these donations totaling $596 be accepted by the City Council.
