RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution Nos. 2009-065
two members to the Arts Commission.
and 2009-066 appointing
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The term of Cynthia Milsap expires in March 2009. She was appointed in September
2008 to fill an unexpired term. Ms. Milsap has served five months.
The term of Alan Lechusza Aquallo also expires in March 2009. Mr. Aquallo was
appointed in December 2008 to fill an unexpired term. He has served three months.
Other members of the Arts Commission are: Sherman DeForest, Heath Fox, Rita
Francis, Barbara Iserloth and Sybilla Voll.
NOTE: Members of the Arts Commission are subject to the provisions of the
Political Reform Act, and must file a Statement of Economic Interests.

7 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

The term on the Arts Commission that you appointed me to fulfill is due to expire on March 1,
2009. I would very much like to continue in that position. I sincerely hope you will consider me
for a full 4-year term to expire March 2013.

Dear Mayor Lewis:
I have only recently been appointed a Commissioner of the Arts for the City of Carlsbad
and already I feel a strong bond forming between those who have been called to address
the important issues relating to the arts and culture for the residences of Carlsbad. I have
been deeply moved and inspired by the immense care and thorough nature that my
colleagues offer to their civic position. Likewise, I come to the Commission with passion
and focus on assisting the community of Carlsbad artistically and culturally into a
sustainable future.
It is from this honored position that I humbly request my re-appointment for another term
as a Commissioner of the Arts for the City of Carlsbad. In these critical times a clear
mind coupled with a patient ear will allow the heart of the arts to flourish forward. It will
be my distinct pleasure and grateful duty to continue my work as a Commissioner of the
Arts.
