ACCEPTANCE OF DONATIONS
RELATED TO THE
2009 TEEN SCENE: BATTLE OF THE
BANDS

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2009-074 , accepting individual donations in product or in-kind services
totaling four thousand six hundred five dollars ($4,605) in support of the 2009 Teen Scene:
Battle of the Bands special event.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On Saturday, January 24th, the Parks and Recreation Department hosted the Teen Scene
special event, which featured the 6th annual Battle of the Bands competition at Calavera Hills
Community Center. Over 600 people attended the event which was created to give teens an
opportunity to express themselves in a safe environment. Several venues featured teen
creativity and artistic ability, including an art exhibit, a film festival, simulated guitar
competition, video dance game, and Karaoke. The main feature of the event, Battle of the
Bands, brought out nine very talented teen bands, each showing off their skills during a
twenty- minute set. The band Tan Sister Radio won the competition to take the title of "2009
Carlsbad Battle of the Band Champion."
The Parks and Recreation Department sought out donations for the prize packs for our Battle
of the Bands Champion and other activities. Several businesses supported the event with in-
kind donations at a value of $4,605. Attached is a detailed list of the businesses and their
donations. (Exhibit 2)
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost associated with the donated products for prizes helped offset the actual cost of
providing this special event.
Letters of appreciation have already been sent on behalf of the Parks and Recreation
Department and the City of Carlsbad to these organizations.

Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines, this action does
not constitute a "Project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not require an
environmental review.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
3 CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING THE DONATIONS OF PRODUCT OR IN-
KIND SERVICES IN THE AMOUNT OF $4,605 IN SUPPORT OF 2009

WHEREAS, the 2009 Teen Scene: Battle of the Bands special event was held on6
7 Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Calavera Hills Community Center; and
8 WHEREAS, the donations of product and in-kind services were received to
9 support the Special Event, and
10 WHEREAS, on March 16, 2009 the Parks and Recreation Commission
recommended the acceptance of the donations in the amount of $4,605, and
12 WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge the generosity and support
13
of community businesses and organizations that donated to this special event; and
14
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:16
I - 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
18 2. That the City Council does hereby accept the donation of $4,605 in
19 products and in-kind services as itemized in Exhibit 2.
