RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.2009-075 accepting a donation of in-kind volunteer hours and
contributions from the California Coastal Rose Society at Magee Park, during calendar year 2008,
with an estimated value of $2,950.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Staff would like to recognize the volunteer service and contributions by the California Coastal Rose
Society at the Magee House during 2008. According to the Certification of Volunteer Efforts
submitted by the California Coastal Rose Society, the volunteers donated 250 hours to help weed,
feed, mulch, dead-head, prune and plant roses in the Magee Rose Garden. They estimate their hourly
rate at $7 per hour, and this translates into an in-kind donation of $1,750.
According to the California Coastal Rose Society's Certification, materials were also donated to help
with the care of the roses. The materials listed as being donated to the Magee House Rose Garden
include: organic fertilizers (8 bags of Alfalfa meal, 4 bags of Sul-Po-Mag, 8 bags of Rose & Flower
Food), 40 bags of mulch, and 6 new roses, and miscellaneous expenses. These items were either
provided by the California Coastal Rose Society, or affiliated vendors, at an estimated value of at least
$1,200.

through service organizations such as this and wishes to acknowledge the talented volunteers from
the California Coastal Rose Society. During the Parks & Recreation Commission regularly scheduled
meeting of March 16, 2009, the Commissioners unanimously recommended the City Council's
acceptance of this donation.
