RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2009-080
donation in support of the Carrillo Ranch Fund and directing the appropriation of the received
funds.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Marley White has served as a volunteer docent at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park since its
opening in 2003. During her tenure, she has dedicated hundreds of hours volunteering as a
tour guide during scheduled weekend tours, as well as school tours for participants in the 4th
Grade California History and Art Program. She has shared her knowledge and passion for the
park with numerous visitors, both children and adults alike.
On March 5, 2009, Ms. White presented a donation in the amount of $5,000 to parks and
recreation staff. Ms. White made this donation with the stipulation that approximately $1,000 of
the funds be used to modify the existing picnic shade structure to provide additional shade for
visitors on hot days. The remainder of the donation may be used for other park specific projects
as needed.
The City of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department wishes to acknowledge Marley White
for her dedicated service to Leo Carrillo Ranch, and her generous financial donation to support
park projects.
On March 16, 2009, the Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to recommend
that this donation in the amount of $5,000 be accepted by the City Council. A letter of
appreciation has been sent on behalf of the parks and recreation department to Marley White.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The parks and recreation department requests that the Council accept the cash donation in the
amount of $5,000 and authorize the Finance Director to appropriate the received donation to
the Carrillo Ranch Fund for purposes related to the development, operation, and maintenance
of Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines section 15378, this
action does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not
require an environmental review.

5 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, wishes to accept

a cash donation in the amount of $5,000 and acknowledge the generosity and support
7
of the Marley White; and8
9 WHEREAS, the City Council of Carlsbad, California wishes to thank Marley
10 White for the generous donation of funds, and her continued support of Leo Carrillo
11 Ranch Historic Park; and
12 WHEREAS, the funds will be used to promote and support the development,
13 operation, and maintenance of Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park; and
14 WHEREAS, on March 16, 2009, the Parks and Recreation Commission received
the donation and recommended acceptance by the City Council.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:

19 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
20 2. That the City Council does hereby accept the cash donation in the amount of
21 $5,000.
22 3. That the City Council hereby authorizes the Finance Director to appropriate
23 the received $5,000 cash donation to the Carrillo Ranch Fund.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 5th day of May, 2009, by the following vote to wit:
