(/A— _, accepting monetary donation from RECOMMENDED ACTION: To adopt Resolution No. 2009-096 Gemological Institute of America. ITEM EXPLANATION: Since 2002, the city has collaborated with Junior Achievement to enrich the educational experience of the youth of Carlsbad. Each spring, CityStuff volunteers are assigned to a classroom where they introduce the concepts of democracy and free enterprise. Donations are solicited to offset the city's costs associated with the classroom lessons. Gemological Institute of America generously offered to donate the printing of 6,000 "Fast Facts 101" books to be used by the students participating in the CityStuff program. FISCAL IMPACT: A donation of in-kind services valued at $17,640 by Gemological Institute of America is to be accepted. This donation supports the efforts of the CityStuff volunteer program in the continuing education of the children about democracy and their local government. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: This activity is not a project and is therefore not subject to State CEQA pursuant to State CEQA Guidelines Section 15060(c )(2) EXHIBITS: 1.
