RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2009-136 accepting a donation of $20,000 from the Carlsbad
Friends of the Arts, directing an appropriate letter of thanks, and authorizing the Finance
Director to appropriate the received funds to the Cultural Arts Office's TGIF Jazz in the Parks
donation account.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and
supporting the programs and activities of the City's Cultural Arts Office, has generously offered
to donate $20,000 to be used by the City for the 2009 TGIF Jazz in the Parks program. The
Friends raise their funds through the Opportunity Drawings conducted at the TGIF Jazz
concerts and through their membership program. The $20,000 donation is intended to be used
for personnel and operational services such as part-time crew, shuttle buses, porta-toilets, truck
rentals, trash and recycling services, and supplies at the TGIF Jazz concerts.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Accepting and appropriating this donation does not constitute a project under the California
Environment Quality Act (CEQA Section 15378) and no environmental review is required.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation will provide partial funding for the 2009 TGIF Jazz in the Parks program, which is
regularly funded, in part, by donations.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2009-136 accepting the $20,000 donation from the Carlsbad Friends
of the Arts for the 2009 TGIF Jazz in the Parks program and authorizing the Finance
Director to appropriate the received funds.

CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION
3 FROM THE CARLSBAD FRIENDS OF THE ARTS AND
4 APPROPRIATING THE RECEIVED FUNDS

6 WHEREAS, Vne Carlsbad Friends of the Arts has generously offered to donate
7 $20,000 to the Cultural Arts Office for the 2009 TGIF Jazz in the Parks program; and
8 WHEREAS, this donation will provide $20,000 for personnel and operational
9 services such as part-time crew, shuttle buses, porta-toilets, truck rentals, trash and
10 recycling services, and supplies at the TGIF Jazz concerts.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:
j4 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
15 2. That the City Council accepts the donation of $20,000 from the Carlsbad
16 Friends of the Arts on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, to cover personnel
17 and operational services related to the 2009 TGIF Jazz in the Parks
18 program, and authorizes the Finance Director to appropriate the received
19 funds to the Cultural Arts Office budget.

3. That the City Council acknowledges with thanks the donation.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 16th day of June, 2009, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Hall, Packard and Blackburn.
NOES: None.
