RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.2009-167 accepting a donation of $70,590 from the Friends of the
Carlsbad City Library, acknowledging a pledge of an additional $33,110 in direct support of library
programs, directing an appropriate letter of thanks and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the
received funds to the Carlsbad City Library's Friends donation account.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have donated $70,590 to the Library for the purchase of materials
for the collection, furniture, and equipment. In addition to the donated funds, the Friends have pledged
funding in direct support of Library programs in the amount of $33,110.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library are especially beneficial during the current
economic climate in that they augment the budget for the Library allowing the purchase of materials and
continuation of programs for the community which otherwise might not have been possible.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of the donation from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library does not qualify as a project
under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378) and no environmental
review is required.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2009-167 accepting the donation and the pledge of support from the Friends of
the Library to the Carlsbad City Library and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the received
funds.

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A
DONATION FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $70,590 to the
Library for the purchase of materials for the collection, furniture, and equipment; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have pledged additional funding
in the amount of $33,110 in direct support of Library programs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council accepts the donation of $70,590 from the Friends of
the Carlsbad Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, for the purchase
of materials for the collection, furnishings, and equipment; and authorizes

the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library

budget.
3. That the City Council acknowledges with thanks the additional sum of
$33,110 pledged in direct support of Library programs.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 7th day of July, 2009, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Hall, Packard and Blackburn.
