ACCEPTANCE OF IN KIND
DONATIONS FOR
2009 DINNER AND A MOVIE NIGHT

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2009-251 , accepting in kind donations at fair market value of three
thousand four hundred eighty-one dollars ($3,481) in support of the August 28, 2009 - Dinner
and a Movie Night at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park and recommend acceptance by the
City Council.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On August 28, 2009, the Parks and Recreation Department hosted its annual Dinner and a
Movie event at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. This event provides an opportunity for to
raise funds for the Leo Carrillo Ranch Special Donation Account, with proceeds from ticket
sales used for projects directly related to Leo Carrillo Ranch. Prior to the meal and movie,
guests are invited to view the inside of the hacienda where volunteer docents are available to
answer any questions.
This year's event was sold out for the first time, with over 150 guests in attendance. The
feature film for this year was "Viva Villa" and a Mexican dinner consisting of chicken and
vegetarian enchiladas, along with traditional side dishes. The entire evening was enjoyed by
all.
In support of this year's event, the City of Carlsbad received two generous donations of in
kind goods and services to help offset the cost. Slice of Heaven Catering donated both food
and service with a fair market value of $3,300. Allie's Party and Equipment rental, Inc.
donated the linens for use at a fair market value of $181. The City of Carlsbad wishes to
acknowledge the generosity of these two businesses in making this event a success.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Product/service donations totaling $3,481 assisted in offsetting the actual cost of this event.
Because of this, all proceeds generated from ticket sales were able to be deposited into the
Leo Carrillo Ranch Special revenue Account.
Letters of appreciation have already been sent to these organizations on behalf of the Parks
and Recreation Department and the City of Carlsbad.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines, this action does not
constitute a "Project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not require an
environmental review.

WHEREAS, the City Council of Carlsbad, California wishes to accept in kind

donations of product and service from Slice of Heaven Catering and Allie's Party and
7
Equipment Rental, Inc. in support of the 2009 Dinner and a Movie Event; and8
9 WHEREAS, the City Council of Carlsbad, California wishes to thank both Slice of
10 Heaven and Allie's Party Rental Inc. for their generosity and support of Leo Carrillo
11 Ranch Historic Park; and
12 WHEREAS, on September 21, 2009, the Parks and Recreation Commission
13 received the donations and recommended acceptance by the City Council.
14 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

18 2. That the City Council does hereby accept the in kind donations with the fair
19 market value of $3,481.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 20^ day of October. 2009, by the following vote to wit:
