ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE
A DONATION FROM THE
CARLSBAD FRIENDS OF THE ARTS

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2010-046 accepting a donation of $6,000 from the Carlsbad
Friends of the Arts, sending an appropriate letter of thanks, and authorizing the Finance
Director to appropriate the received funds to the Cultural Arts Office's Arts Education donation
account.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and
supporting the programs and activities of the City's Cultural Arts Office, has generously offered
to donate $6,000 to be used by the City for the FY 2009-2010 Family Open Studios program.
Family Open Studios is a hands-on art-making program designed for the whole family and is
presented on one Saturday during the run of each new William D. Cannon Art Gallery
exhibition. The Friends raise their funds through the Opportunity Drawings conducted at the
TGIF Jazz in the Parks concerts and through memberships. The $6,000 donation is intended to
be used for art supplies and personnel services for five programs presented in FY 2009-2010.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Accepting and appropriating this donation does not qualify as a project under the California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) per State CEQA Guidelines Section 15378. Accepting and
appropriating this donation does not result in a direct or reasonable foreseeable indirect
physical change in the environment.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation will provide partial funding for the FY 2009-2010 Family Open Studios program,
which is regularly funded, in part, by donations.

of the Arts for the FY 2009-2010 Family Open Studios program and authorizing the

6 WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts has generously offered to donate

8 and
9 WHEREAS, this donation will provide art supplies and personnel services for five
10 Family Open Studios programs offered in FY 2009-2010.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:13
14 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
15 2. That the City Council accepts the donation of $6,000 from the Carlsbad
16 Friends of the Arts to cover art supplies and personnel services for the FY
17 2009-2010 Family Open Studios program, and authorizes the Finance
18 Director to appropriate the received funds to the Cultural Arts Office budget.

3. That the City Council acknowledges the donation with an appropriate letter of

thanks.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 23rd day of March, 2010, by the following vote to wit:
