RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2010-072 , appointing Paul McCormick, representing La
Costa Resort and Spa, to the Carlsbad Tourism Business Improvement District Board (CTBID).
ITEM EXPLANATION:
April Shute has resigned from the Board due to relocation. Ms. Shute represented La Costa
Spa and Resort, and was appointed by City Council Resolution 2005-332. Resolution 2005-
332, states that members representing the largest hotel businesses within the City are to
be appointed without term limits. La Costa Resort and Spa is one of the largest hotels in
the City of Carlsbad.
It is requested that Paul McCormick, the new Vice President and General Manager of La
Costa Resort and Spa be appointed to the Carlsbad Tourism Business Improvement
District Board.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines Section 15378,
this action does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does
not require an environmental review.
NOTE: Members of the Carlsbad Tourism Business Improvement District Board are
subject to the provisions of the Political Reform Act, and must file a Statement
of Economic Interests.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPOINTING ONE MEMBER TO
THE CARLSBAD TOURISM BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT
businesses within the City on a permanent basis ; and
WHEREAS, La Costa Resort and Spa is one of the largest hotel businesses within
the City; and,
WHEREAS, Paul McCormick has been named the new Vice President and
General Manager of La Costa Spa and Resort.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That Paul McCormick, Vice President and General Manager of La Costa
Resort and Spa is appointed to the Carlsbad Tourism Business Improvement
District for a term without limits.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 6th day of April. 2010, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Packard and Blackburn.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Council Member Hall.

Dear Mayor and Members of f he Carlsbad City Council,
It is with regret that I must resign my position on the CTBID Board I will be
relocating to Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage, Ca. Paul McCormick
win be the new Vice president and General Manager of La Costa Resort and
Spa and as such we request that he be appointed to the board.
On a final note I wish to recognize each of you along with the city staff, as
you are responsible for making Carlsbad the outstanding city that it is today. It is
your dedication, passion and vision that have made Carlsbad successful. I
thank you for your support and friendship over the past 6+ years and I wish you
continued success.
