DONATION TO THE CARLSBAD CITY
LIBRARY LITERACY PROGRAM FROM
IN MOTION EVENTS

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2010-085 accepting a donation of $500.00 from In Motion Events
to the Carlsbad City Library literacy program, directing an appropriate letter of thanks, and
authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library's budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Each year the Carlsbad Library literacy program staff amasses a team of participants from
Carlsbad employees, residents, volunteers and friends for the annual Union Tribune Race for
Literacy. This year the Carlsbad Team had the second largest San Diego Council on Literacy
Affiliated Program team with 69 members. In Motion Events, the event producer, donated $500
to Literacy Services in recognition of this achievement.
The Carlsbad Library literacy program located within the Library Learning Center will use the
funds for the purchase of learner and tutor supplies and materials.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The donation from the In Motion Events is especially beneficial during the current economic
climate in that the funds augment the budget for the literacy program allowing the purchase of
additional materials and supplies.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Accepting this donation does not qualify as a project under the California Environmental Quality
Act (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378) and no environmental review is required.
EXHIBITS:

2 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A
3 DONATION FROM IN MOTION EVENTS AND
4 APPROPRIATING THE RECEIVED FUNDS
5 WHEREAS, In Motion Events, in recognition of the Carlsbad Team's participation
6 in the Union Tribune Race for Literacy, has donated $500 to the Carlsbad City Library
7 for the literacy program, and;
8 WHEREAS, the Library has designated the funds for supplies and materials for
9
the learners and tutors of the literacy program;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
12 Carlsbad, California, as follows:
13 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
14 2. That the City Council accepts the donation of $500 from In Motion Events
15
on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, for the purchase of materials and
16
supplies for the literacy program and authorizes the Finance Director to
appropriate the received funds to the Library budget.18
