HAND MUFFLER IN SUPPORT OF

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2010-086 accepting a donation of an Ermine coat and
hand muffler valued at six thousand five hundred dollars ($6,500) in support of
Leo Carrillo Ranch.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On December 22, 2009, staff at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park was presented with a
donation by Jaime Kallweit of an Ermine coat and hand muffler that once belonged to
Leo Carrillo's wife, Edith Carrillo. Mr. Carrillo purchased these items for his wife in
1942, and they remained in the Carrillo family until sold at an estate sale in the 1970s.
It was at this time that Ms. Kallweit purchased both the coat and muffler, along with
other items once belonging to the Hollywood actor.
Ms. Kallweit has been the proud owner of these items for over 30 years, and has
maintained the excellent quality and appearance of the clothing throughout the time it
has been in her possession. Knowing that Leo Carrillo Ranch accepts donations to its
collection, she felt strongly about returning the items back for possible use in a future
exhibit.
In February 2010, Ms Kallweit informed staff that the privately appraised value of the
coat and hand muffler was $6,500.
On March 15, 2010, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously accepted the
donation and recommended acceptance by City Council.
The City of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department wishes to acknowledge the
generosity of Jaime Kallweit and her support of Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. A
letter of appreciation has been sent on behalf of the Parks & Recreation Department
and the City of Carlsbad.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost savings associated with the donated coat and muffler helped to offset the
actual cost to the General Fund by $6,500.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines, this action
does not constitute a "Project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not
require an environmental review.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
3 CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF AN ERMINE COAT AND
HAND MUFFLER IN SUPPORT OF LEO CARRILLO RANCH.

5 WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept a donation of Ermine coat and
hand muffler for Leo Carrillo Ranch; and
WHEREAS, the coat once belonging to Leo Carrillo's wife, Edith Carrillo will

be used for public educational and exhibit purposes; and
9
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge the support and
generosity of Jaime Kallweit and her donation to Leo Carrillo Ranch; and
12 WHEREAS, on March 15, 2010, the Parks and Recreation Commission received
13 the coat and muffler donation valued at $6,500 and recommends acceptance by the
14 City Council.
15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
16 Carlsbad, California, the following:
17 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That the City Council does hereby accept the donation of an Ermine coat
19
and hand muffler with a privately appraised value of $6,500.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 27th day of April, 2010, by the following vote to wit:
