ACCEPTANCE AND APPROPRIATION
OF DONATION TO SPECIAL EVENTS

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2010-119 accepting a cash donation in the amount of five hundred dollars
($500) and appropriating the received funds in support of the 2010 Eggstravaganza Spring
Festival special event.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On Saturday, April 3, 2010, the Parks & Recreation Department hosted the annual
Eggstravaganza Spring Festival event at Poinsettia Park from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Attendance at the event was at an all time record high of approximately 3,000 people.
Throughout the event, guests participated in numerous activities: children raced to collect candy-
filled eggs in the "Egg Scramble" activity, created edible Easter baskets, played in the Fun Zone
and soaked the Easter bunny. Visitors also had an opportunity to preview the Parks & Recreation
summer camp program offerings and participate in demonstrations that provided several free
arts, crafts, and other activities.
As part of the Parks & Recreation Department's continuing effort to minimize General Fund
expenses, staff solicited donations from local businesses to assist in support for this year's event.
Point Loma Credit Union generously contributed a five hundred dollar cash donation in support of
the special events program.
On April 19, 2010, the Parks & Recreation Commission unanimously accepted the donation and
recommended acceptance by City Council.
The City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation Department wishes to acknowledge the generosity of
Point Loma Credit Union. A letter of appreciation has been sent on behalf of the
Parks & Recreation Department and the City of Carlsbad.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This money will be deposited and appropriated in the Special Events fund to offset the costs of
future events.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines, this action does not
constitute a "Project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not require an
environmental review.

5 WHEREAS, the EGGstravaganza Spring Festival special event was held on
6 April, 3, 2010 in Carlsbad; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept a cash donation in the amount

of $500 and appropriate the received funds in support of the Parks and Recreation
9
Department Special Events; and

WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge the generosity and support
12 of Point Loma Credit Union who donated to this special event; and
13 WHEREAS, on April 19, 2010, the Parks and Recreation Commission received
14 cash donation totaling $500 and recommended acceptance by the Council.
15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, the following:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

3. That the City Council authorizes the Finance Director to appropriate the

received funds in support of the Park & Recreation Department's Special

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 25th day of May, 2010, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Hall, Packard and Blackburn.
