THE CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2010-178 _ accepting a donation of $58,700 from the Friends
of the Carlsbad City Library, directing an appropriate letter of thanks and authorizing the
Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library's budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have donated $57,200 to the Library to be used
primarily for additions to the collection but also in support of a loaner-laptop pilot program at the
Georgina Cole Library, and to cover promotional materials and refreshments for a variety of
Library programs.
In addition, the Friends have donated $1,500 for the Children's area in memory of Connie
Costantino, a former Carlsbad librarian. These funds represent the proceeds from an
opportunity drawing for a handmade quilt given to the Friends by Anne Linehan for this purpose.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library are especially beneficial during the
current economic climate in that they augment the budget for the Library allowing the purchase
of materials and continuation of programs for the community which otherwise might not have
been possible.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Accepting and appropriating this donation does not qualify as a "project" under the California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) per State CEQA Guidelines Section 15378 as it does not
result in a direct or reasonable foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.

OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE
3 ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION FROM THE FRIENDS
4 OF THE CARLSBAD LIBRARY AND AUTHORIZING
THE APPROPRIATION OF THE RECEIVED FUNDS

6 WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $57,200 to

WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated an additional

13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
14 Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That the City Council accepts the total donation of $58,700 from the

Friends of the Carlsbad Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and18
19 authorizes the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the
20 Library budget.

of the City of Carlsbad on the 13th day of July, 2010, by the following vote to wit:
