ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION TO
OPPORTUNITY GRANT FUND

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2010-190 , accepting a cash donation in the amount of one thousand
dollars ($1,000) in support of Parks & Recreation Department Opportunity Grants Fund.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On June 1 - June 4, 2010, the Parks & Recreation Department co-sponsored the California State
Senior Olympics Pickleball event at Poinsettia Park. Through cooperation with the Pasadena
Senior Center, who organized these games, and the North County Picklers, this inaugural event
drew nearly 200 participants for the four day event. In addition to the senior competitions, Friday
activities also sanctioned events in an open category where participants of all ages could
compete.
On May 24, 2010, the Parks & Recreation Department received a donation in the amount of
$1,000 on behalf of the Pasadena Senior Center and the North County Picklers. In appreciation
of the Park & Recreation Department's efforts, this donation was presented to benefit the
Opportunity Grant Fund.
On June 21, 2010, the Parks & Recreation Commission unanimously accepted the donation and
recommended acceptance by City Council.
The City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation Department wishes to acknowledge the generosity of
the Pasadena Senior Center and the North County Picklers. A letter of appreciation has been
sent on behalf of the Parks & Recreation Department and the City of Carlsbad.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The funds associated with this donation help to provide an additional $1,000 in financial
assistance to be used through the Opportunity Grant Fund program for parks and recreation
programs.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines, this action does not
constitute a "Project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not require an
environmental review.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
3 CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING CASH DONATION IN THE
AMOUNT OF $1,000 IN SUPPORT OF THE PARKS & RECREATION
4 DEPARTMENT OPPORTUNITY GRANT FUND
WHEREAS, the California State Senior Olympics were held at Poinsettia Park
from June 1 - June 4, 2010; and

WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge the generosity and

support towards the Park & Recreation Department Opportunity Grant Fund from the

Pasadena Senior Center and the North County Picklers; and
WHEREAS, on June 21, 2010 the Parks & Recreation Commission received a
\2 cash donation in the amount of $1,000 and recommended acceptance by the City

14 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, the following:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 27th day of July, 2010, by the following vote to wit:
