RECOMMENDED ACTION:
To receive a presentation from Jackie Moates, a long time resident of Carlsbad, relating to the
possibility of memorializing the former Carlsbad Raceway.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The City Council provides an opportunity for citizens to have an item placed on a City Council
Agenda by submitting a request to the City Manager. Attached is a request (Exhibit 1), from
Jackie Moates, a long time resident of Carlsbad, relating to the possibility of memorializing the
former Carlsbad Raceway.
The Moates and other interested parties have had some preliminary discussions with staff and
request that the City Council allow them to work further with staff to come up with some
achievable solutions to present to City Council in the near future for your consideration.

I would like to request to be place on the council agenda to make a proposal of an idea that would
eventually lead to memorializing the Carlsbad Raceway in some way. I would only need 10
minutes or less.
My name is Jackie Moates, I have been a resident of Carlsbad for about 35 years. I was one of
thousands of'pit moms' who, with the help of this venue, raised two boys. I know from personal
experience what Carlsbad Raceway meant to the many thousands of us parents to have such a
facility in raising our families.
I would appreciate the opportunity to address the council at your convenience.
