HE>\D^fr^~ CITY ATTY. d^- CITY MGR• 1 j^f RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council adopt Resolution No. 2010-225 authorizing the City Manager or designee to execute, in the name of the City of Carlsbad, all necessary forms for the purpose of applying for grant funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety to conduct two sobriety checkpoints. ITEM EXPLANATION: The California Office of Traffic Safety is accepting applications for their Sobriety Checkpoint Mini- Grant Program for Local Law Enforcement Agencies. The goal of this competitive grant is to reduce the number of people killed statewide in alcohol-related crashes. The mini-grant is available for overtime costs associated with conducted sobriety checkpoints during the two National Impaired Driving Campaign mobilization time periods: December 2010 and late Summer 2011. If approved, this would be the third time the City of Carlsbad has received this grant. FISCAL IMPACT: If approved, the City will apply for all allowable overtime costs associated with conducting two sobriety checkpoints. If the grant is awarded to the City, all allowable overtime costs are fully reimbursable. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065 and CEQA Guideline section 15738, this does not constitute and "project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore does not require an environmental review. That the above recitations are true and correct. 19 2. That Council authorizes the submittal of this grant application. 20 3.
