P & R ACCEPTANCE AND APPROPRIATION OF CASH DONATION TO LEO CARRILLO RANCH TRUST FUND DEPT. DIRECTOR CITY ATTORNEY CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2010-253 ($2,500) cash donation in support of the Leo Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund, and directing the appropriation of the received funds. _, accepting a two thousand five hundred dollar ITEM EXPLANATION: As part of their continued support of Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park, the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc. presented the Parks & Recreation Department with a check in the amount of $2,500 to benefit the Fourth Grade History and Art program. The award winning City of Carlsbad History and Art program is available at no cost to all fourth grade classrooms in the City of Carlsbad, and has been a staple of the educational programming at the park since its opening. The program incorporates the fourth grade curriculum standards established for schools in California in regard to California state history. Informational packets are distributed in advance of their visit to all participating schools so they may begin their studies prior to their trip to the historic property. Once on site at Leo Carrillo Ranch, students and chaperones are presented with an hour-long decent led tour of the historic buildings, followed by an art project. Thanks to a generous partnership with the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc., the portion of the art component held at the Ranch will be increased to two full hours. This modification allows the instructor and students the additional time needed to incorporate more complex art theories and materials into their visit. On October 19, 2010, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously accepted the donation and recommended acceptance by the City Council, and appropriation by the finance director. The City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation Department wishes to acknowledge the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc. for their continued dedication to supporting the Leo Carrillo Ranch. A letter of appreciation has been sent on behalf of the City of Carlsbad. DEPARTMENT CONTACT: Kevin Granse 760-931-1052 Kevin.Granse@carlsbadca.gov FOR CITY CLERKS USE ONLY.
