ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE A
DONATION TO THE CARLSBAD CITY
LIBRARY

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.2010-258 accepting a donation of $1,000 from Linda Sarnowsky,
directing an appropriate letter of thanks and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the received
funds to the Library's budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Carlsbad resident Linda Sarnowsky has donated $1,000 to the Carlsbad City Library for the express
purpose of purchasing adult fiction titles for the Library collection at the Dove Lane location in memory of
Sharon Kern.
This donation was in response to an on-going program promoted by the Friends of the Carlsbad City
Library which encourages individual donations. The program allows the donor to choose the types of
books they would like purchased and provides for commemorative bookplates if desired.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations designated to be used for additions to the Library collection are especially beneficial during
the current economic climate in that they augment the budget for the Library allowing the purchase of
materials which otherwise might not have been possible.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Accepting this donation does not qualify as a "project" under the California Environmental Quality Act
(CEQA) per State CEQA Guidelines Section 15378, as it does not result in a direct or reasonable
foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.

CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING
3 AND APPROPRIATING A DONATION TO THE

5 WHEREAS, Linda Sarnowsky has donated $1,000 to the City of Carlsbad for
the Carlsbad City Library in memory of Sharon Kern, and;6
WHEREAS, Ms. Sarnowsky has specified the donation be used to purchase
7 adult fiction material for the Dove Lane location;
8 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
9 Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.11
12 2. That the City Council accepts the gift of $1,000 from the Linda Sarnowsky,
13 on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and hereby authorizes the Finance
14 Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library's budget.
