RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2011-026 appointing one member to the Library Board of Trustees.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The term of Rob Swette expired in June 2010, however he continued to serve through
December 2010, and has subsequently submitted a letter of resignation, dated December 15,
2010.
One appointment to the Library Board of Trustees is required.
Other members of the Library Board of Trustees are: Rob Benson, Marie Bradley, Beth Hulsart
and Bill Lignante.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines Section 15738, this
action does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not
require additional environmental review.
NOTE: Members of the Library Board of Trustees are subject to the provisions of the
Political Reform Act, and must file a Statement of Economic Interests.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPOINTING ONE MEMBER TO
THE LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
2. That the following person is hereby appointed to serve as a member of the
Library Board of Trustees for a term to expire in June 2014.

Dear Sir:
I would like to tender my official resignation from the Carlsbad City Library Board of Trustees effective
December 30, 2010.
Originally appointed in March 2002 following the resignation of Trustee Charlene Barren, I have
continually served on this Board for eight plus years. My appointment expired in June of this year and I
agreed to continue to serve on the Board until such time as my successor was appointed; however, I do
not feel that I can continue to do so and still meet the demands here at work. While I do not anticipated
that my absence from the Board will result in a lack of quorum for the monthly meetings, the Board will
be one Trustee short and it is my hope that the position can be filled relatively soon.
I appreciate the opportunity given to me to be involved in the City by serving on the Library Board. Our
Library has continued to meet the needs and expectations of the people of Carlsbad as well as the
surrounding area and I have enjoyed being directly involved.
