RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.2011-117, accepting cash donations totaling five thousand two hundred-
fifty dollars ($5,250) in support of the Carlsbad Senior Center, and directing the finance director
to appropriate the funds to the Senior Center Special Revenue Account.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
In the past year, the Carlsbad Senior Center has been the recipient of three generous
donations:
Carlsbad Senior Citizens Association $1,000
Lumina Foundation for Education 3,750
Friday Afternoon Bridge Group 500
TOTAL DONATIONS: $5,250
The Carlsbad Senior Citizens Association and the Friday afternoon bridge group have donated
to the Senior Center to show their appreciation for use of the facility to provide their programs
(bingo and party bridge).
Dr. Holly Zanville, the daughter of long time Senior Center participant Edith Feldman, is
employed by the Lumina Foundation for Education and made a donation to the Foundation to
benefit the Senior Center. The Foundation matched the donation made by Dr. Zanville. Dr.
Zanville expressed her appreciation for all the service and enjoyment her mother has received
throughout her years at the Senior Center. Dr. Zanville requested the donation be used to
support transportation, special events and classes at the center.
At their meeting January 6, 2011, the Senior Commission unanimously voted to recommend
that the City Council accept these donations in the amount of $5,250.
Thank you letters have been sent to all donors on behalf of the Senior Center.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The donations amounting to $5,250 have been deposited into the Senior Center Special
Revenue Account and will be utilized to provide equipment, special programs and events not
supported by other resources at the Senior Center.
