ACCEPT A DONATION FROM THE

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2011-127 accepting a donation of $20,000 from the Carlsbad
Friends of the Arts and directing an appropriate letter of thanks.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the
programs and activities of the City of Carlsbad's Cultural Arts Office, has generously offered to
donate $20,000 to be used by the City for the TGIF Jazz in the Parks concert series. The
Friends raise their funds through the Opportunity Drawings conducted at the TGIF Jazz
concerts and through their membership program. The $20,000 donation is intended to be used
for personnel and operational services such as part-time crew, shuttle buses, porta-toilets, truck
rentals, trash and recycling services, and supplies at the concerts.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) in that it has no potential to
cause either a direct physical change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect
physical change in the environment, and therefore does not require environmental review.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation will provide partial funding for the TGIF Jazz in the Parks concert series, which is
regularly funded, in part, by donations.
EXHIBITS:

of the Arts for the TGIF Jazz in the Parks concert series.

5 WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts has generously offered to donate
6
$20,000 to the Cultural Arts Office for the TGIF Jazz in the Parks concert series; and

WHEREAS, this donation will provide $20,000 for personnel and operational8
services such as part-time crew, shuttle buses, porta-toilets, truck rentals, trash and
10 recycling services, and supplies at the TGIF Jazz concerts.
11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
12 Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
14 2. That the City Council accepts the donation of $20,000 from the Carlsbad

Friends of the Arts to cover personnel and operational services related to the
16
TGIF Jazz in the Parks concert series.17
18 3. That the City Council acknowledges the donation with an appropriate letter of
19 thanks.
