RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2Q11-1?R accepting donations in Fiscal Year 2010-11 totaling
$2,200 to the Carlsbad Parks Memorial Bench and Tree Program, and appropriating received
funds to the parks and recreation - parks maintenance operating budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
In the past fiscal year, the Carlsbad Parks Memorial Bench and Tree Program has been the
recipient of the following five donations for a memorial bench or a memorial tree:
The American Youth Soccer Organization
Ms. Alix Szold
Mr. David Brandi
Mr. Irving Gordon
The Girl Scouts of America Troop #1160

Memorial benches were installed at Aviara Park and Cannon Park; and memorial trees were
installed at Magee Park and at Poinsettia Park, by parks maintenance staff.
At their meeting on June 20, 2011, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously
recommended that the City Council accept these donations totaling $2,200.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The $2,200 in donated funds offsets the costs associated with the bench and tree purchases
and installations.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines Section 15378, this
action does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to
cause either a direct physical change in the environment or a reasonably foreseeable indirect
physical change in the environment and therefore, does not require and environmental review.

parks memorial benches and trees, and appropriating received funds.

WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department administers a parks
memorial bench and tree program; and
WHEREAS, the American Youth Soccer Organization, Ms. Alix Szold, Mr. David
Brandi, Mr. Irving Gordon, and the Girl Scouts of America Troop #1160 donated $850,
$850, $200, $150, and $150, respectively, in Fiscal Year 2010-11, to the City of Carlsbad
for the purpose of purchasing a memorial bench or a memorial tree; and
WHEREAS, on June 20, 2011, the Parks and Recreation Commission

WHEREAS, the city council wishes to accept these donations,
unanimously recommended the City Council accept these donations totaling $2,200, and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the city council accepts the donations in Fiscal Year 2010-11, totaling
$2,200, on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad.
3. That the finance director is authorized to appropriate the $2,200 to the
parks and recreation-parks maintenance operating budget.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 21st day of June 2011, by the following vote to wit:
