ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE A
DONATION FROM THE FRIENDS OF
THE LIBRARY

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2011-160 accepting a donation of $43,960 from the Friends of the
Carlsbad City Library together with a pledge of $56,040 in additional support, directing a letter of thanks,
and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the Carlsbad City Library's
budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have donated $43,960 to the Library for the purchase of materials
for the collection and Carlsbad Reads Together as well as support of the literacy program. In addition to
these funds, the Friends have pledged an additional $56,040 in direct support of the Library programs for
the year including Summer Reading.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library are especially beneficial during the current
economic climate in that they augment the budget for the Library allowing the purchase of materials and
continuation of programs for the community which otherwise might not have been possible.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project" within the
meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in the environment, or
a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and therefore does not require
environmental review.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2011-160 accepting the donation from the Friends of the Library to the Carlsbad
City Library and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds.

6 WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have donated $43,960

8 WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have pledged an

12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
13 Carlsbad, California, as follows:
14 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That the City Council acknowledges with thanks the pledge of $56,040 in16
17 direct support.
18 3. That the City Council accepts the donation of $43,960 from the Friends
19 of the Carlsbad Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and
20 authorizes the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the
21 Library budget.
