KIND SERVICE DONATIONS
2011 EGGSTRAVAGANZA SPRING

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2011-162 _ , accepting product and in-kind donations
totaling sixty two thousand four hundred thirty-six dollars ($62,436) in support of the
201 1 Eggstravaganza Spring Festival special event.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On Saturday, April 23rd, the Parks & Recreation Department hosted the annual
Eggstravaganza Spring Festival event at Poinsettia Park from 10:00 a.m. to 1 :00 p.m.
Eggstravaganza was a huge success with more than 3,000 attendees enjoying a safe
and fun spring celebration at Poinsettia Park. Kids participated in an egg scramble on
the ball fields, collecting as many candy-filled eggs as they could in the time allotted.
They had a chance to meet the Easter Bunny for a photo or to soak him at the Balloon
Burst. Also, children and parents had the opportunity to sample and sign up for the
various Parks & Recreation Department summer camps and classes.
Thanks to generous donations from several local businesses, children were eligible to
win Legoland tickets to the new Sea Life Aquarium, K-1 Speed races, Adventure Cut
haircuts, and many other cool prizes in the Crazy Egg at the spin wheel. Additionally,
Home Depot donated spring craft making materials that were free to all participants.
Donations received totaled $62,436 from local businesses. Attached is a detailed list of
the businesses and their donations (Exhibit 2).
Letters of appreciation have been sent on behalf of the Parks & Recreation Department
and the City of Carlsbad to all donor organizations.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The value of the donated products and in-kind services for prizes and activities helped
to offset the actual cost of providing this special community event.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines, this action
does not constitute a "Project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not
require an environmental review.

PRODUCTS AND IN-KIND SERVICES IN SUPPORT OF THE
4 2011 EGGSTRAVAGANZA SPRING FESTIVAL SPECIAL EVENT.

WHEREAS, the Eggstravaganza Spring Festival special event was held on
7 April 23, 2011 in Carlsbad; and
8 WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept product and in-kind donations
9 totaling $62,436 in support of the Eggstravaganza Spring Festival event; and
10 WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge the generosity and support
11 of several local businesses who donated to this special event; and
12 WHEREAS, on May 16, 2011, the Parks and Recreation Commission received
13 in-kind donations totaling $62,436 and recommended acceptance by the Council.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, the following:16
17 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
18 2. That the City Council does hereby accept $62,436 of product and in-kind
19 donations.
