ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE A
DONATION FROM THE FRIENDS OF
THE CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.2011-174 accepting donations totaling $2,250 from the
Friends of the Carlsbad City Library, directing an appropriate letter of thanks and authorizing the
Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library's budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have made three donations to the Carlsbad City
Library. The Friends are donating $1,000 resulting from an opportunity drawing for a donated
handmade quilt. In addition, the Friends received two donations designated for the Library, a
$500 donation from the Ken Blanchard Companies on behalf of their employee Joanne
Maynard and a $750 donation from AOL to support library programs featured on its subsidiary,
Patch.com.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations to the Library are especially beneficial during the current economic climate in that
they augment the budget for the Library allowing the purchase of materials and funding for
programs which otherwise might not have been possible.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change
in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment,
and therefore does not require environmental review.

THE APPROPRIATION OF THE RECEIVED FUNDS

6 WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have made a donation
7 of $2,250 to the Library; and
8 WHEREAS, the donation represents $1,000 which resulted from their quilt

fundraiser, a $500 donation from the Ken Blanchard Companies on behalf of their

employee Joanne Maynard, and a $750 donation from AOL to support library

programs featured on its subsidiary, Patch.com; and

WHEREAS, the Library plans to use the funds for the purchase of materials1 O
14 and in support of library programs;
15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
16 Carlsbad, California, as follows:

18 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
19 2. That the City Council accepts the donation of $2,250 from the Friends of
20 the Carlsbad Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and authorizes
21 the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library
22 budget.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 26th day of July, 2011, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Hall, Blackburn, Douglas and Packard.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Council Member Kulchin.
