ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE A
DONATION TO THE CARLSBAD CITY

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2011-194 accepting a donation of $5,000 from Linda Sarnowsky to the
Carlsbad City Library, directing an appropriate letter of thanks, and authorizing the Finance Director to
appropriate the received funds to the Library's operating budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Library patron and Friends of the Carlsbad City Library Vice President Linda Sarnowsky has donated these
funds to recognize the continued support provided to the Carlsbad City Library by the Friends' Board
Members and Volunteers through the years.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation to the Carlsbad City Library is especially beneficial during the current economic climate in
that Ms. Sarnowsky has requested the funds be used for the purchase of fiction titles, augmenting this
year's materials budget for the Library.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project" within the
meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in the environment, or
a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and therefore does not require
environmental review.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2011-194 accepting the donation from Linda Sarnowsky to the Carlsbad City
Library and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds.

2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE
3 ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION TO THE CARLSBAD
4 LIBRARY AND AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATION
OF THE RECEIVED FUNDS

6 WHEREAS, the Carlsbad City Library has received a $5,000 donation from
7 Carlsbad resident and Friends of the Carlsbad City Library Vice President Linda
8 Sarnowsky; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Sarnowsky has requested these funds be used to augment

the Library's collection budget specifically for the purchase of fiction material;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of12
13 Carlsbad, California, as follows:
14 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
15 2. That the City Council accepts the generous donation of $5,000 from Ms.
16 Sarnowsky behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and authorizes the Finance
17
Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library budget.
