RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt City Council Resolution No. .2011-202 APPROVING the Mayor to write a letter of
support to the North County Transit District for placement of a public piano at the Village
Coaster Station located on State Street in Carlsbad.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
At the July 12th City Council meeting, Carlsbad resident Don Christiansen addressed the City
Council during public comment regarding the placement of a public piano at the Village Coaster
Station located on State Street in Carlsbad.
The piano would be used by commuters or residents at the train station. This project would
enhance the vibrancy of the Village as well as provide an additional community gathering place.
Mr. Christiansen originally approached the North County Transit District (NCTD) for their
approval of this project. Representatives from NCTD instructed Mr. Christiansen to obtain a
letter of support from the Carlsbad City Council in order to move forward with the request.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
This project is categorically exempt under CEQA, pursuant to Section 15301 (c).
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.

WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad has a strong commitment to creating a vibrant
6
atmosphere and community gathering places in the Village; and
7
WHEREAS, this commitment is shared by the North County Transit District's8
Q vision for its stations; and
10 WHEREAS, Carlsbad resident Don Christiansen originally approached the North
11 County Transit District for their approval of this project and representatives instructed
12 Mr. Christiansen to obtain a letter of support from the Carlsbad City Council in order to
13 move forward with the request.
14 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Carlsbad
authorizes the Mayor to write a letter of support for a public piano at the North County

Transit District Train Station on State Street.
