RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.
Committee.
2012-015 appointing one member to the Beach Preservation
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Committee Member Angela O'Hara has resigned her position on the Beach Preservation
Committee. Ms. O'Hara was appointed to the Committee in December 2004 and was reappointed
to the Committee in June 2008. Ms. O'Hara's current term ends In June 2012.
One appointment to the Beach Preservation Committee Is needed.
Applications received for the Beach Preservation Committee are on file in the Office of the City
Clerk.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines section 15738, this
action does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not
require additional environmental review.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPOINTING ONE MEMBER TO
THE BEACH PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, the Committee Member Angela O'Hara has tendered her resignation
from the Beach Preservation Committee; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. O'Hara's current term ends June 2012, and upon acceptance of
her resignation, a vacancy will occur on the Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows that:
1. The above recitations are true and correct.
2. The City Council accepts the resignation of Angela O'Hara from the Beach
Preservation Committee.
3. The following person Is hereby appointed to serve as a member of the Beach
Preservation Committee, for a term that expires In June 2012:

Dear Mayor Hall,
For the past seven years, I have had the pleasure of serving on Carlsbad's Beach
Preservation Committee. However, after much contemplation, I'm writing today to
officially resign my position on the committee. The main factor influencing this
decision is my growing commitment to adjunct teaching for Southwestern College.
For the past 18 months, teaching assignments in Chula Vista have interfered with
my attendance of monthly Beach Preservation Committee meetings. A new semester
just commenced and I have yet another Tuesday night class as well as online
teaching responsibilities. That combined with my full-time job at the Gemological
Institute of America limits the amount of time and energy 1 have for other pursuits.
I can't thank you enough for the opportunity to serve on the committee. I have
learned so much during my time working with council members, city staff and
citizens in support of the protection and enhancement of Carlsbad's shoreline. I'm
especially proud of our most recent efforts to increase public awareness about this
precious natural resource through the Carlsbad Beach Fests.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Appreciation Event in September.
