ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION IN
SUPPORT OF THE CARLSBAD SENIOR
CENTER AND APPROPRIATION OF
FUNDS

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2012-025 , accepting a cash donation of one thousand six hundred
twenty dollars ($1,620) in support of the Carlsbad Senior Center, and direct the finance director
to appropriate the received funds.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
For the past 25 years KoKo Beach Restaurant owners, Jeff King and Martin Kouma have
organized an annual fundraiser to benefit the senior center.
This year 324 tickets were sold. Each ticket cost $5.00 which can be redeemed for $5.00 off a
meal at KoKo Beach. KoKo Beach then donates the $5.00 to support the senior center.
At their regular meeting, January 5, 2012, the Senior Commission voted unanimously to
recommend acceptance of this donation by City Council and direct the finance director to
appropriate the funds.
A letter of appreciation has been sent on behalf of the Parks and Recreation Department and
the City of Carlsbad to Jeff King and Martin Kouma.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Cash donation of $1,620 has been deposited into the Senior Program Donation Account to be
used to support programs and equipment provided at the senior center.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change
in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment,
and therefore does not require environmental review.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No.2012-025. authorizing acceptance of a cash donation in support of the
senior center, and appropriation of the received funds.
2. Thank you letter to KoKo Beach Restaurant owners.

2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A CASH DONATION OF
^ $1,620 IN SUPPORT OF THE CARLSBAD SENIOR CENTER AND
4 APPROPRIATION OF RECEIVED FUNDS.

5 WHEREAS, KoKo Beach Restaurant held a fundraiser in support of the Carlsbad
7 Senior Center; and
8 WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept this cash donation in the amount
9 of $1,620;
IQ WHEREAS, on January 5, 2012 the Senior Commission recommended
11 acceptance of the donation totaling $1,620 by the City Council.
12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
12 Carlsbad, California as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council does hereby accept $1,620 in cash donations.
3. That the City Council authorizes the finance director to appropriate the
$1,620 upon receipt to the Senior Center Special Revenue fund.
