CARLSBAD LIBRARY AND ARTS

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2Q12-Q39 accepting a donation of $77,800 from the Carisbad
Library and Arts Foundation to the City of Carlsbad's Library & Cultural Arts department, and
send an appropriate letter of thanks.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carisbad Library and Arts Foundation has generously offered to donate $77,800 to the City
of Carlsbad's Library & Cultural Arts department, as follows:
• $65,620 from its Robert H. Gartner Endowment Fund to be used for cultural programming in
the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium at the Carlsbad City Library complex, and
• $12,180 from its William D. Cannon Art Gallery Endowment Fund to be used for the William
D. Cannon Art Gallery's Three-Part-Art education program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation will be used to enhance cultural programming during FY 2012-13 in the Ruby G.
Schulman Auditorium and will provide partial funding for the FY 2012-13 William D. Cannon Art
Gallery's Three-Part-Art education program.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change
in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment,
and therefore does not require environmental review.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2012-039 accepting a donation of $77,800 from the Carisbad Library
and Arts Foundation for cultural programming in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium at the
Carlsbad City Library complex and for the William D. Cannon Art Gallery's Three-Part-Art
education program.

WHEREAS, the Carisbad Library and Arts Foundation has generously offered to
donate $77,800 to the City of Carlsbad's Library and Cultural Arts department, as
follows: $65,620 from its Robert H. Gartner Endowment Fund for cultural programming
in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium at the Carlsbad City Library complex, and $12,180
IQ from its William D. Cannon Art Gallery Endowment Fund for the William D. Cannon Art

12 WHEREAS, acceptance of this donation will provide enhanced cultural
13 programming during FY 2012-13 in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium and partial
funding for the FY 2012-13 William D. Cannon Art Gallery's Three-Part-Art education
program,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carisbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

21 Library and Arts Foundation, of which $65,620 is for cultural programming In
22 the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium and $12,180 for the William D. Cannon

3. That the City Council acknowledges the donation with an appropriate letter of
