ATTEND THE INFORUM 2012 CONFERENCE

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2012-042 authorizing one business systems staff member to attend the
Inforum 2012 conference in Denver, Colorado from April 21-25, 2012.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The purpose of travel is to attend the Hansen sessions of the Inforum conference and to receive
information on new features and additional modules, as well as more in depth information on modules
we already use. Staff will also be able to get some hands on training on features of Hansen that we
would like to know more about such as workflows, customizations, batch processing, and Web
Services. Increasing our knowledge about these features and the software in general will allow us to
expand how the divisions use the system.
Additionally, the business systems staff member will consult with other users on how Hansen is used
to support the maintenance functions in other agencies. This has proven valuable in the past.
Attending the conference benefits the city in that it allows us to continue to improve how we use the
system and helps us to streamline data entry and improve data tracking.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
The authorization of out-of-state travel does not qualify as a project under the California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) per State CEQA Guidelines Section 15378 and therefore does not
require environmental review.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to attend the Inforum 2012 is approximately $3,000 which includes registration for the
conference, lodging, travel, and meals. Funds are available in the utilities budget, by forgoing two
other planned and budgeted conferences.

RESOLUTION NO. 2012-042
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING ONE BUSINESS
SYSTEMS STAFF MEMBER TO ATTEND THE INFORUM
2012 CONFERENCE IN DENVER, COLORADO FROM
APRIL 21-25. 2012.
WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize one
business systems staff member to attend the Inforum 2012 conference in Denver, Colorado from
April 21-25, 2012; and
WHEREAS, the funds are available in the FY 2011-2012 Utilities budget for out-of-state
travel.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That out-of-state travel is hereby authorized in accordance with City policy, for
one business systems staff member to attend the Inforum 2012 conference in
Denver, Colorado from April 21-25, 2012.
