SUPPORT OF THE OPPORTUNITY
GRANT PROGRAM AND
APPROPRIATION OF RECEIVED

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolufion No. 2012-068 , accepting a cash donation of one thousand dollars
($1,000) in support ofthe Park & Recreation Department's Opportunity Grants Program, and
direct the Finance Department to appropriate the received funds to the Parks & Recreafion
Department Opportunity Grant program budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On December 7, 2011, the Parks 8c Recreafion Department was presented with a check from
Rhythm & Hues Inc. in the amount of $1,000 in support ofthe Opportunity Grant Program. Upon
complefion of a facility rental for a commercial film producfion. Rhythm & Hues Inc. wanted to
provide an additional donation separate from the rental fees they paid that would directly benefit
families in Carisbad.
The City of Carisbad Opportunity Grant Program provides access to recreafion programs for
families that might not otherwise be able to afl'ord to participate. Besides having fun, children
who participate in recreation programs learn life skills, engage in healthy activities, and socialize
in safe environments. Donafions to the Opportunity Grant Program, such as those presented by
Rhythm & Hues Inc., will help to provide financial assistance for recreation opportunifies to those
Carisbad families in need.
On January 30, 2012, the Parks & Recreafion Commission unanimously accepted the donafions
and recommended acceptance by City Council.
The City of Carisbad Parks & Recreafion Department wishes to acknowledge the generosity of
Rhythm & Hues, Inc. A letter of appreciafion has been sent on behalf ofthe Park & Recreafion
Department and the City of Carisbad.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The donation from Rhythm and Hues Inc. in the amount of $1,000 has been deposited into the
Opportunity Grant revenue account for support of low income youth in the Carisbad community.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Secfion 21065 and CEQA Guidelines, this acfion does not
constitute a "Project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not require an
environmental review.

WHEREAS, on December 7, 2011, Rhythm and Hues Inc. presented the City

y of Carisbad with a donation in the amount of $1,000 in support of the Opportunity
8 Grant Program; and
9 WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge the generosity and
10 support of Rhythm and Hues Inc. for their support of the Opportunity Grant Program;
and
WHEREAS, on January 30, 2012 the Parks $ Recreation Commission
recommended the acceptance of the donafion totaling $1,000 by the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, the following:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council does hereby accept $1,000 in cash donafion in
19 support of the Opportunity Grant Program, and authorizes the finance director to
20 appropriate the received funds to the Opportunity Grant program budget.
