RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2012-166 accepting a donation of $56,734 from the Friends
of the Carisbad City Library together with a pledge of $43,266 in additional support, directing a
letter of thanks, and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the
Carisbad City Library's budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carisbad City Library have donated $56,734 to the Library for the purchase
of materials for the collection and Carisbad Reads Together as well as support of the literacy
program. In addition to these funds, the Friends have pledged an additional $43,266 in direct
support of the Library programs for the year including Summer Reading.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Carisbad City Library are especially beneficial during the
current economic climate in that they augment the budget for the Library allowing the purchase
of materials and the continuation of programs for the community which otherwise might not
have been possible.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical
change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the
environment, and therefore does not require environmental review.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2012-166 accepting the donation from the Friends of the Library to the
Carisbad City Library and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds.
