RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2012-247 appointing John Coates as interim City Manager.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The City Manager announced her retirement effective December 24, 2012 and will not be
further returning to her office. In the interim, it is recommended that Assistant City Manager
John Coates be appointed interim City Manager until a successor City Manager is appointed.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There will be a minor fiscal impact of approximately $2,163 per month until a successor City
Manager is appointed.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
This is not a project within the meaning of CEQA since it does not have a direct physical impact
on the environment (Public Resources Code §21065)

2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPOINTING AN INTERIM
CITY MANAGER
5 WHEREAS, the City Manager has announced her intention to retire as of
6 December 24, 2012; and
7 WHEREAS, she will not return tp the work place; and
^ WHEREAS, Assistant City Manager John Coates has the skills, knowledge and
ability to serve as the interim City Manager until a successor City Manager is appointed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

16 3. His bi-weekly salary shall be set at $7,653.69 unless and until modified by

of the City of Carlsbad on the 6th day of November, 2012, by the following vote to wit:
