ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION IN SUPPORT
OF THE CARLSBAD SENIOR CENTER AND
APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2013-001 , accepting a donation of one tinousand dollars ($1,000) in
support ofthe Carlsbad Senior Center, and direct the finance director to appropriate the
received funds.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carlsbad Chinese-American Club, "in appreciation for all the wonderful services" the senior
center provides to the community, selected the center to be the beneficiary of their donation.
At their regular meeting, November 8, 2012, the Senior Commission voted unanimously to
recommend acceptance of this donation by City Council and direct the finance director to
appropriate the funds.
A letter of appreciation has been sent on behalf of the Parks and Recreation Department and
the City of Carlsbad to the Carlsbad Chinese-American Club.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donation of $1,000 has been deposited into the Senior Program Donation Account to be used
to support programs and equipment provided at the senior center.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change
in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment,
and therefore does not require environmental review.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2013-001 authorizing acceptance of a cash donation in support of the
senior center, and appropriation of the received funds.
2. Thank you letter to the Carlsbad Chinese-American Club.

WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Chinese-American Club donated funds in support of
7 the Carlsbad Senior Center; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept this donation in the amount of
9 $1,000;
IQ WHEREAS, on November 8, 2012 the Senior Commission recommended
11 acceptance of the donation totaling $1,000 by the City Council
12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
13 Carlsbad, California as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council does hereby accept $1,000 in cash donations.
3. That the City Council authorizes the finance director to appropriate the
$1,000 upon receipt to the Senior Center Special Revenue fund.

pleased to have been selected as a recipient of your club's generosity.
As you are aware, we provide programs and activities to hundreds of older adults every day.
Thanks to donations such as yours, the Senior Center is able to offer many special programs and
amenities that we would not otherwise be able to provide.
It was a pleasure meeting you and Evelyn. I hope you will consider joining in at the center, and
that your members will continue to participate and enjoy the many activities available.
