RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. ^m.vnpfi approving an out-of-state travel request from the police
department for one member of their IT staff to attend the 2013 Microsoft Management Summit.
The conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, April 8-12, 2013.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The police department uses Microsoft products extensively for IT infrastructure management.
This includes the recently installed virtualization environment. Virtualization reduces overhead
costs, and improves the efficiency and availability of resources and applications in the
organization. This summit will provide extensive technical training to help the police department
maximize its use of the technology.
In addition, valuable information will be shared by industry experts regarding best practices, and
the latest innovations and solutions.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to attend the conference for one person is approximately $3,500. Funds are available
in the Police Department budget to cover all estimated costs.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical
change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the
environment, and therefore does not require environmental review.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2013-025 authorizing out-of-state travel for one member of the police
department's IT staff to attend the 2013 Microsoft Management Summit. The conference
will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, April 8-12, 2013.

6 WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to
y authorize out-of-state travel for police department IT staff to attend a five-day
training conference for information technology staff working with Microsoft
products; and
WHEREAS, funds are available in the FY 2012-13 Police Department
budget for the out-of-state travel.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Cartsbad, California, as follows that:
1. The above recitations are true and correct.

16 for one member of the police department to attend the Microsoft Management
