ACCEPT A DONATION FROM THE
CARLSBAD FRIENDS OF THE ARTS

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2013-033 accepting a donation of $15,000 from the Carlsbad
Friends ofthe Arts to the City of Carlsbad's Library & Cultural Arts department, and send an
appropriate letter of thanks.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to
supporting the programs and activities of the City of Carlsbad's Cultural Arts Office, has
generously offered to donate $15,000 to be used by the City for the TGIF Jazz in the Parks
concert series. The Friends raised these funds through the sale of advertisements placed in the
2012 TGIF Jazz Souvenir Program. The souvenir program, which is offered free at each
concert and at various community locations, was generously printed in 2012 as an in-kind
donation to the City by Modern Postcard, a nationally renowned company based here in
Carlsbad.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation from the Carlsbad Friends ofthe Arts will provide partial funding for the TGIF
Jazz in the Parks concert series, which is regularly funded, in part, by donations.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change
in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment,
and therefore does not require environmental review.

^ THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION FROM THE

6 WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts have generously offered to donate
7 $15,000, which was raised through the sale of advertisements in the 2012 TGIF
^ Souvenir Program, to the City of Carlsbad's Library & Cultural Arts department for the
TGIF Jazz in the Parks concert series; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of this donation will provide partial funding for the TGIF
Jazz in the Parks concert series, which is regularly funded, in part, by donations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:

15 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

Friends of the Arts for the TGIF Jazz in the Parks concert series.
