RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution Nos. 2013-100 2013-10_1 an i 2013-102 appointing three
members to the Beach Preservation Committee.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Committee member Pieter de Monchy has resigned effective March 31, 2013. Mr. de Monchy has
served approximately one year and seven months.
The terms of committee members D. Bret Barger and Darryl Hatheway expire in June 2013.
Mr. Barger and Mr. Hatheway were appointed in July 2009 and have served approximately three years
and ten months. They have expressed a desire to be reappointed to the Beach Preservation Committee.
Other members ofthe Beach Preservation Committee are: Norelynn Pion-Gorueau, Linda Petrucci,
Matt Rocco and Jayme Timberlake.
Three appointments to the Beach Preservation Committee are therefore required.
Applications received for the Beach Preservation Committee are on file in the Office ofthe City Clerk.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT;
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project" within
the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in the
environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and
therefore does not require environmental review.

Re: Beach Preservation Committee
Dear Mayor Hall:
My expanded work commitments in 2013 require me to travel extensively to the Long Beach area and
will prevent me from maintaining my commitment to the Carlsbad Beach Preservation Committee.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I was able to spend with the Committee and its members and
especially contributing to the continued growth and enhancement of the City of Carlsbad. Therefore it is
with regret that I offer my resignation as Vice Chairman of the Beach Preservation Committee. It is
important to make room for someone who has the time and availability to contribute to this Important
responsibility
My wife, Claudia, and I will continue to reside in Carlsbad because ofthe outstanding quality of life here
and the great job the City does in maintaining that. I look forward to our next opportunity to meet and
discuss the growth of our great City.

Request for reappointment to Carlsbad Beach Preservation Committee
Dear Mayor Hall:
My current appointment as a member of the Carlsbad Beach Preservation Committee is due to expire in June
2013. I would very much like to continue in this role with the committee because I believe we have many more
things we need to do and I would like to contribute any and every way I can. Please consider my request to be
reappointed for another "term".
