RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2Q13-162 accepting a donation of $81,185 from the Friends
ofthe Carlsbad City Library together with a pledge of $28,815 in additional support, directing a
letter of thanks, and authorizing the Administrative Services Director to appropriate the received
funds to the Library & Cultural Arts operating budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have donated $81,185 to the Library for the purchase
of materials for the collection, the Summer Reading Program, and Carlsbad Reads Together as
well as support of the literacy program. In addition to these funds, the Friends have pledged
$28,815 in direct support of Library programs for the year.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library augment the budget for the Library
allowing the purchase of materials and the continuation of programs for the community which
othen/vise might not have been possible.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical
change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the
environment, and therefore does not require environmental review.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2013-162 accepting the donation from the Friends of the Library to the
Carlsbad City Library and authorizing the Administrative Services Director to appropriate the
received funds.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CAUFORNIA, ACCEPTING AND APPROPRIATING
A DONATION TO THE CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY
WHEREAS, the Friends ofthe Carlsbad City Ubrary have donated $81,185 to the City of
Carlsbad for the Carlsbad City Ubrary, and;
WHEREAS, the Friends ofthe Carlsbad City Ubrary have pledged an additional $28,815
in direct support for Ubrary programs during the year; and
WHEREAS, the donation from the Friends ofthe Carlsbad City Ubrary augment the
budget for the Ubrary allowing the purchase of materials and the continuation of programs for
the community which otherwise might not have been possible.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows that:
1. The above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council accepts the gift of $81,185 and the pledge of $28, 815 from
the Friends of the Carlsbad City Ubrary, on behalf of all residents of Carlsbad, and
hereby authorizes the Administrative Services Director to appropriate the received
funds to the Ubrary & Cultural Arts operating budget.
