REQUEST FOR OUT-OF-STATE
TRAVEL TO ATTEND TRAINING FOR
DAPTIV PROJECT PORTFOLIO

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2013-185 authorizing the Information Technology Project Portfolio
Manager and Information Technology Business Systems Analyst to attend a three day training, held
in Seattle, Washington, on the city project portfolio management tool - Daptiv - on August 21-23,
2013.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The purpose ofthe travel is to attend Daptiv tool report training. The Daptiv system is a project and
portfolio tracking tool. Daptiv allows visibility into several aspects of the city's information
technology project portfolio confirming alignment to the city's information technology strategy and
goals. This training will allow city staff to create reports like project budget vs. actual, deliverable
variance, percent complete, and capacity planning. These are just a few ofthe reports available
with proper training. These reports allow the information technology team to adequately manage the
resource capacity for projects as well as implement projects with increased timing and accuracy.
The training is offered in Seattle, Washington only.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to attend the training is approximately $2,200.00 which includes training, applicable flights,
shuttles, lodging, and meals. Funds are available in the Information Technology Department budget
to cover all estimated costs.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in
the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and
therefore does not require environmental review.

7 WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize
^ out-of-state travel for the Information Technology Project Portfolio Manager and
Information Technology Business Systems Analyst to attend Daptiv reporting tool
training in Seattle, Washington; and
WHEREAS, this training allows the Information Technology Project Management
Office to report status and manage the project portfolio more effectively; and
WHEREAS, greater product knowledge and report developments skills enhance
13 the implementation of city projects which support the city's vision of being a world class
16 city; and
17 WHEREAS, the costs associated with this training and travel are covered by
1^ funds available in the Information Technology fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
