P&R THE OPPORTUNITY GRANT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AND APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS CITY MGR. ^ ^^^^— RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2014-045 , accepting a donation of eight thousand dollars ($8,000) in support ofthe Opportunity Grant Program, and direct the Administrative Services Director to appropriate the received funds. ITEM EXPLANATION: In an effort to show their appreciation and gratitude to the Parks & Recreation Department, Carlsbad Ughtning Soccer Club has once again offered a generous donation to help serve the community. As part of their fundraising efforts through their annual soccer tournaments. Lightning Soccer has provided a donation totaling $8,000 in support ofthe Opportunity Grant Scholarship Program. The Opportunity Grant Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to children from low income families who could not otherwise afford to participate in recreation programs. The above mentioned donation is to be used to allow children to participate in camps, classes, aquatics programs, and other activities offered by the Parks & Recreation Department. The Parks & Recreation Department and the City of Carlsbad wish to thank Carlsbad Ughtning Soccer Club for their continued support. Letters of appreciation have been sent on behalfofthe Park & Recreation Department and the City of Carlsbad. FISCAL IMPACT: $8,000 of total donation has been deposited in to the Opportunity Grant Account. The donation helps to ensure low income families have financial assistance for their children to participate in recreational activities and programs. EXHIBITS: 1. Resolution No. 2014-045 authorizing the acceptance of a cash donation in support the Opportunity Grant Scholarship Program, and appropriation of received funds. 14 15 16 17 18 21 22 23 24 25 November Nights Tournaments in July and November 2013; and WHEREAS, Carlsbad Lightning Soccer Club uses funds generated by these tournaments to provide scholarships within their organization; and 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2014-045 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, 3 ACCEPTING DONATION TOTAUNG $8,000 FROM CARLSBAD LIGHTNING SOCCER CLUB IN SUPPORT OF THE OPPORTUNITY GRANTS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AND APPROPRIATION OF RECEIVED FUNDS. 5 6 WHEREAS, Carlsbad Ughtning Soccer Club hosted the Carlsbad Cup Soccer and 7 8 9 10 J J WHEREAS, Carlsbad Ughtning Soccer Club appreciates the relationship with the City 12 of Carlsbad and its employees in serving the Carlsbad community members; and 13 WHEREAS, Carlsbad Lightning Soccer Club wishes to donate $8,000 for use in supporting Carlsbad children and programs that are in need; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept cash donation in the amount of $8,000 in support ofthe Parks and Recreation Department Opportunity Grant Scholarship Fund; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, 19 California, the following: 2^ 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. That the City Council does hereby accept $8,000 in cash donation.
