RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2014-081
Commission.
appointing one member to the Parks and Recreation
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Commission Member Jim Craig resigned on February 7,2014.
Mr. Craig was appointed in October 2003 and has served approximately ten years and four months.
One appointment to the Parks and Recreation Commission is therefore required.
Other members of the Parks and Recreation Commission are Leonard Martyns, Roy Meenes, Diane
Proulx, Matt Simons, Jodi Rudick Stein and Ron Withall.
Applications received for the Parks and Recreation Commission are onfile in the office ofthe City Clerk.
NOTE: Members of the Parks and Recreation Commission are subject to the provisions of the
Political Reform Act, and must file a Statement of Economic Interests.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT;
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project" within the
meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in the environment,
or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and therefore does not
require environmental review.

Re: Letter of Resignation
Effective Date: February 7, 2014
Dear Mayor and Council:
It has been my great pleasure to have served as a volunteer on the Parks and
Recreation Commission for a number of years now. During my terms on the
commission, we have had numerous parks and facilities opened throughout our
wonderful city. One of my long term goals was to support the development and
completion of the Alga Norte Park. It is truly one of the finest parks in San Diego
and throughout Califomia.
It has been a privilege to serve on the commission but I know how important it is
to share this position with other citizens of Carlsbad. It is for this reason that I
believe it is time for me to step down, so others can also become involved.
Thank you and the council for all of your support over the years. I look forward to
continuing to volunteer and serve the City of Carlsbad in other capacities.
