RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2015-147 accepting tlie contract for construction of the Northwest
Quadrant Storm Drain Program-2013 (Valley Street - East Side, Highland Drive and Linda Lane), Project
No. 6608 as complete and directing the City Clerk to record a Notice of Completion and release bonds in
accordance with State Law and City Ordinances.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On June 3, 2014, the City Council ofthe City of Carlsbad awarded a contract to Southland Paving, Inc. in
the amount of $558,178 for the construction of the Northwest Quadrant Storm Drain Program-2013
(Valley Street - East Side, Highland Drive and Linda Lane), Project No. 6608.
Southland Paving, Inc. completed the work on May 1, 2015. Staff has inspected the work and found it to
be satisfactory. Staff recommends acceptance ofthe improvements by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT:
NORTHWEST QUADRANT STORM DRAIN PROGRAM-2013 (VALLEY
STREET - EAST SIDE, HIGHLAND DRIVE AND UNDA LANE),
PROJECT NO. 6608 (SOUTHLAND PAVING, INC.)
Construction Award: $ 558,178
Construction Contingency: $ 75,000
Total: $ 633,178
Construction Expenditures: $ 567,671
Remaining Balance: S 65,507
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
The approval of a Notice of Completion is a ministerial process and is exempt from the requirements of
the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to Carlsbad Municipal Code Section
19.04.070A.l.a.

WHEREAS, the construction of the Northwest Quadrant Storm Drain Program-2013
(Valley Street-East Side, Highland Drive and Unda Lane) was completed to the city's satisfaction
by Southland Paving, Inc. on May 7, 2015; and
WHEREAS, the formal Notice of Completion has been prepared; and
14 WHEREAS, all project costs have been established to date.
15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California
as follows:

That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That the Northwest Quadrant Storm Drain Program-2013 (Valley Street-East Side,

21 and is hereby accepted by the City Council ofthe City of Carlsbad.
